DETAILED PROGRAM
DAY 1: DAKAR – PINK LAKE (About 40km/45mn)
Afternoon drive to Pink Lake. it’s an amazing marvel of nature, known throughout the world. It’s famous for its remarkable pinkish-coloured water (due to unique bacteria and its strong salt content) that can turn to purple depending on the intensity of the sunlight.
It’s also famous as the last stage of the famed Paris-Dakar car rally. Dinner and overnight in chez Salim.hotel.
DAY 2: PINK LAKE – LOUMPOUL (About 160km/03h)
After breakfast, Visit of the Lake, the salt extraction area and a Peul Village.
Unforgettable swimming sensation in the lake. Lunch in Salim restaurant and continuation to Loumpoul. Transfer with 4wd from Loumpoul village to Loumpoul desert. Welcome drink at sunset and dromedary ride o pedestrian walk. Dinner and overnight under Mauritanian tents in Loumpoul Ecolodge.
DAY 3: LOUMPOUL – DJOUDJ NATIONAL BIRDS PARK – SAINT LOUIS (About 245 km/4h)
Early breakfast and road to Djoudj birds Park, listed world heritage by UNESCO, it is the first water point right after flying over the Sahara desert for migrating birds. More than 350 species birds are coming each winter in this place: cormorans, pelicans, whistling ducks, Gambian geese, fishing eagles but also crocodiles, varans, warthogs, jackals. Boat safari with an expert guide. Lunch in Djoudj Park restaurant and back to Saint Louis. In the afternoon, traditional horse carriage to visit the historical colonial district listed among the UNESCO world heritage: Faidherbe bridge, the old colonial houses, the city hall, the cathedral, the Aerospostale museum and the fishermen’s quarter of Guet Ndar with multicoloured dugouts. Dinner and overnight in hotel la Poste.
DAY 4: SAINT LOUIS – THIES – BANDIA RESERVE– SOMONE (About 248km/04h)
Early departure to Thies, 2nd city of Senegal, called capital of rail, continuation to Bandia Reserve. Lunch in Bandia panoramic restaurant, in front of the crocodile’s’ lake.
Afternoon safari in the Reserve of Bandia with African fauna guide. You can meet all the big West African animals in this natural park: giraffes, antelopes, rhinoceros, zebras, ostriches, warthogs, buffalos; also tortoises, monkeys, crocodiles and lot of beautiful birds. Continuation to Somone beaches area, dinner and overnight in Africa Queen hotel.
DAY 5: SOMONE – MBOUR – DAKAR (About 120km/02h)
After breakfast, visit of Mbour market and the fishing port, at the time of fishermen arrival. Back to Somone for lunch; leisure, beach and transfer to Dakar by the afternoon.
